Pushed to the Limits: Realizing Everything is for Atonement

Rabbi Pinchas Shafer once walked into a shul and saw a sign hanging on the bulletin board saying Alenu Lishabe’ach is not Tefilat HaDerech, which means it shouldn’t be said while walking out of shul. The Rabbi said he took a lot of inspiration from that sign as he recalled the words of the Mateh Moshe who said he has a tradition that a person is supposed to say Alenu with fear, trepidation and humility because when we say Alenu, all of the Heavenly hosts listen to those great praises of Hashem and then they say אשרי העם שככה לו . If we realize that Hashem is waiting to hear the praises of Alenu Lishabe’ach from us, for sure we would say it better.
If we focus on the words of Alenu and truly understand Hashem is the only One with any say at all times, then we will be able to live life the way we are supposed to.
