Delightful Treasures: Expressing Love through the Torah

R’ Shimon bar Yochai said that Hashem gave us three precious gifts, but each of them comes with hardship: Torah, Eretz Yisrael and Olam HaBa. Every time a person experiences a hardship in this world, it is cleansing him and giving him a better portion in the next world. If we remind ourselves how transient this world is and how long the Next World is, it’ll make it much easier for us to accept those hardships when they come. Our Rabbi teach us that the yissurin accomplish infinitely more when we accept them with joy. Besides for the fact that acceptance takes away the need for more yissurin, the rewards that a person receives in the Next World for it are unimaginable and לפום צערא אגרא – the harder it is to accept, the greater the rewards will be.
Even when Hashem sends a person yissurin to cleanse him, there’s still hidden presents behind them. That neighbor was definitely yissurin, but at the same time, he was their savior. Hashem always does good. If we are able to accept what He does with love, then it will become even better for us.
