Checking the Heart: The Strength of Your Bitachon

We say every day in Ashrei, "ורחמיו על כל מעשיו" – Hashem’s mercy extends to all people at all times. The Yesod V’Shoresh HaAvodah writes, while we are saying those words, it’s an opportune time to make a prayer in our mind that Hashem should have compassion on His People and turn their hearts to want to serve Him. And if we know of someone who is sick, we should have in mind that Hashem should have mercy on that person and bring about a refuah shelemah.
Only Hashem knows how much kindness each person needs and will need, and He provides opportunities for us to access His kindness accordingly. Even our feelings, or lack thereof, come from Hashem. If we act the way He wants us to, whether we feel it or not, we’ll be bringing extra mercy from Him upon ourselves.
