The Mitzvah of Loving Hashem
Loving Hashem is one of the 613 Mitzvot, and it can be fulfilled at any moment, in our minds alone. The Pele Yo'etz writes, every time we think of a reason why we should love Hashem, and it causes us to have a stronger love for Him, we fulfill this Mitzvah. The Rambam writes, the love that we are supposed to have for Hashem should be so intense that we become lovesick over Him, where we think about Him all of the time.
We can love Hashem when we have and we can love Hashem when we don't have. When we have everything we need, we should feel such an overwhelming sense of gratitude and humility, and love Hashem for everything He gave us. And if we think about it honestly, we will recognize how much Beracha we really do have. And if a person is lacking, he can work on himself to love Hashem more than what he's lacking, and thereby fulfill this great Mitzvah of Ahavat Hashem even when it's difficult.
