Parashat Miketz: Breaking all the Rules
Every year on Parashat Miketz, we get chizuk from reading about Yosef rising from the lowest place to the highest place in an instant. The pasuk says, ויריצוהו מן הבור - he was rushed out of jail. In the morning, he was a lowly prisoner who didn't know if he would ever get out of jail. And by the afternoon, he was second in command of the most powerful country in the world. The Seforno writes, this is the way that Hashem always saves us. His salvations come in an instant. This means that one of the reasons the Torah tells us of this episode is to teach us about how to anticipate our own salvations. In Yosef's case, he had no friends or relatives who even knew where he was to advocate on his behalf, and in the normal course of events, even if somehow he would manage to get out of jail, he still would be considered a lowly ex-convict. To become a high ranking official in the palace takes years of good service. And even with that, the chances of it happening are slim. Yet, Yosef rose all the way to the top in an instant.
This is how Hashem works, breaking all the rules. A girl may have been waiting years to get married and the way things are going, it doesn’t seem like things will ever change. She hasn’t even gotten a suggestion in over a year. Our emunah is, that doesn’t say anything about what could happen in a minute from now. All of a sudden, the right person could come along and the girl could be married in no time.
The same applies in every area, whether it is parnasa, health, having children, we are always hopeful that the yeshua could come כהרף עין -in the blink of an eye. Even at times when it seemed that the yeshua was so close and then it fell apart, we still believe that an even better yeshua could come right afterward.
The yeshua of Hashem can always come in an instant, even right after a let down. It’s up to us to always have that hope and belief in Hashem that it could come.
Shabbat Shalom!
