Parashat Miketz: Spiritual Hishtadlut
The Midrash at the beginning of this week’s parsha Miketz praises Yosef for his great bitachon in Hashem, and precisely since he was on such a high level of bitachon, he was held accountable for asking the Sar HaMashkim for help while in jail. We are all obligated and encouraged to make a normal hishtadlut to accomplish whatever it is we are trying to accomplish, but at the same time, we should keep in mind how valuable an acceptance in an area of spirituality is and how much that can bolster our efforts.
Hishtadlut is necessary and it’s always a good idea to do something spiritually as a zechut as well, but we must always keep in mind we need Hashem to give us success in anything we try to do.
Shabbat Shalom!
