The Goal of Effort: Fulfilling the Divine Will

The bote’ach b’Hashem has one goal when making a hishtadlut which is to fulfill the will of Hashem. He has in mind he is only making an effort because that is what Hashem requires him to do, but he knows the effort or choices that he will make do not actually play a role in the final results.
We should never second guess our decision. 99% of the time when we make a choice, it is because we feel that the choice will be best for us based on the information available at the time, and that is our part.
The Hovot Halevavot is teaching us that hishtadlut is part of our avodat Hashem. When making decisions, we should go into it with that thought process. We are doing hishtadlut because it is the will of Hashem-and that is our part-and then we should know beyond a shadow of a doubt that the results are not based on our decisions. They are based on what is best for us.
