Parashat Toldot: Prayer is a Reality
This week's Parasha Toldot begins with Yitzchak and Rivka praying to Hashem to have a child. The Pasuk says Hashem accepted the prayer and Rivka conceived. Rabbenu Bachya writes, in his Sefer Kad Hakemach, that Tefila is so great; it has the power to change nature, and he brings Yitzchak and Rivka as proof. They were not physically capable of having children, but their prayers changed nature.
We should not be fooled by this Yetzer Hara. Prayer does work. Prayer changes nature. Prayer breaks decrees. Hashem runs the world based on our prayers.
Tefila is wondrous. It can change nature. We need to know this fact and utilize Tefila to its fullest.
