Blessings for the Mindset: The Promise of Yirmiyahu

There are times when a person is praying for something that he wants very badly, but for whatever reason, at the moment, it's not good for him to get. However, with a little spiritual boost, it would then become good for him to get. Hashem, who wants to give a person more than the person wants to receive, will give the person an opportunity to do a mitzvah or overcome a test that would give him the spiritual boost that he needs.
The Gemara tells us it is forbidden for a person to put himself into a test and then be a hero and overcome it. However, if Hashem puts him in a test, it's a wonderful opportunity to grow spiritually. Whenever a person is being tested, he needs to pause and remind himself that the eternal rewards for overcoming it will far outweigh the momentary pleasures he may derive from falling to it. With a little bit of chizuk, a person can overcome the biggest nisyonot.
The Chafetz Chaim said, what a pity it is if people are not working on guarding their eyes. Only pure eyes will be able to enjoy basking in the radiance of the Shechina forever and ever. The fleeting pleasures of this world are never worth exchanging for the sublime, eternal pleasures that Hashem has in store for us in the future.
