Beyond Segulot: Knowing the Soul-Purpose of Mitzvot

The Greatest Things We Can Do in This World
When it comes to emunah, no lesson is too basic. We constantly need to review the fundamentals to give ourselves the strength we need for all situations in life. Every single person has a different job to do in this world. And if he does that job, he will be in the highest places in Gan Eden and Olam HaBa. Everyone has different challenges, some with parnasa, some with shalom bayit, some with raising children, some with health issues, some with friendship problems, and the list goes on. The one with parnasa issues looks at his friend, who's earning a lot of money, and thinks, “If only I had his parnasa, I would be able to serve Hashem with peace of mind. My learning would be better. My Shabbat would be better. I would sing the praises of Hashem all the time.”
Although that might be true, this is not the job that Hashem gave this man. His job is to overcome struggles in parnasa. And although that job may change one day in the future, for now, this is the job Hashem wants him to do, and if he does it properly, it's the best possible way he can serve Hashem.
Reacting with happiness instead of complaining, and serving Hashem the way He wants us to serve Him are from the greatest things we can do in this world.
