Marriage / Shidduchim

The Hardest Mitzvah: Choosing Joy on the Holiday

The Gemara says after 120 a person is going to be asked certain questions in Shamayim, one of which is, עסקת בפריה ורביה? It is said in the name of the Chatam Sofer, the explanation of that question is, did you involve yourself in making shidduchim, which would bring about more children into the world? Many Gedolim used to try to make shidduchim during the Aseret Yimei Teshuva, as a zechut, during the days of judgment.
A person should never say, there are so many shadchanim, why should I get involved? Because the same way shidduchim are min haShamayim, it's also min haShamayim through which shadchan a shidduch will be brought about.
It may occur that a shidduch is progressing, and then due to certain comments, it falls apart. We should never hold anyone accountable for breaking a shidduch, because Hashem is the מזווג זיווגים, and a shidduch can never become ruined, unless He wants it to happen. A shadchan is just a messenger of Hashem. When Hashem wants a shidduch to happen, it'll happen. And we have seen His wondrous ways in making shidduchim, time and time again.
When we get involved and try to make shidduchim l'shem Shamayim, it brings about great blessings.
