Hashem Desires Your Return: Finding Joy in Teshuva

When Yaakov Avinu left his parent’s home, running away from Esav, he made a pledge to Hashem that if Hashem would guard him and take care of all of his needs and bring him back home safely, then he would bring korbanot on a specific מזבח-(altar) that he was setting up then. And indeed, when he came back safely, he fulfilled that pledge. When a person accepts upon himself to do something in avodat Hashem, it gives him great zechut and brings about salvation.
Yaakov Avinu taught us how to access extra siyata d’Shamaya by taking upon ourselves extra hidurim in our avodat Hashem.
