Resentment or Growth: Managing the Initial Reaction to Tests

The pasuk says in Daniel, ומצדיקי הרבים ככוכבים לעולם ועד -People who work on behalf of the masses are like eternal shining stars. The Mishna in Pirkei Avot says, "People who are מזכה הרבים get extra help from Hashem in being protected from sin.” Our holy sefarim speak so highly of people who dedicate their time and efforts to helping others.
In fact, the Shulhan Aruch (O.C. 93) writes, "If someone is involved in צרכי רבים, he is even exempt from tefila if it interferes."
We get paid for the effort, not for the results. And when the efforts are harder to make, that just means the rewards are greater. We may not see exactly what we are accomplishing, but if a person is working l'shem shamayim, his efforts will definitely at some point bear fruit.
When we are involved in community service, we're working for Hashem. Every single effort we make will get paid. And even if we don't see the results we're hoping for, we should continue putting in the efforts knowing that Hashem will take care of that as well.
