Disheartened Deeds: Trusting the Merit of Extra Mitzvot
The Rama writes in Yoreh De’ah siman 247 that giving tzedaka brings a person wealth. The question was asked, if someone is struggling to pay for his own expenses, is he obligated to give 10% of his earnings to tzedaka? The answer is he is not. However, the Chazon Ish said he should write down how much he is supposed to give and, b’ezrat Hashem, when he makes enough money, he’ll pay it then. Others say, if this person would be willing to push himself and invest some money to try to make more, the best investment he could possibly make is in tzedaka.
Hashem decides when and how to give a person money. And one of the ways in which we can get a raise is by giving tzedaka.
