Overcoming the Embarrassment: Releasing the Pain of the Past

The pasuk says in Kohelet שלח לחמך על פני המים כי ברוב הימים תמצאנו– throw your bread into the water and eventually you will find it. Rashi explains, this pasuk is telling us to do chesed even to people who we think we will never see again, just like when a person throws his bread into the ocean he doesn’t think it will ever come back. And when we do that, that is when the chesed will be returned and we ourselves will benefit from it. The implication here is when a person does chesed לשם שמים(for the sake of Hashem), that is what produces this great benefit.
Chesed is great even if it is not L’shem Shamayim, but it’s even greater when it is L'shem Shamayim!
