Our Mission: Using This World to Earn the Next

When things don’t seem to be going the way we hoped for them to go, our natural inclination is to feel down about it. We may mope around thinking that Hashem, kavayachol, will feel bad for us and give us what we want. In fact, however, the opposite attitude would accomplish much more. We’re not supposed to feel depressed, thinking we have run out of options or time to be helped. Rather, we should work on feeling hopeful that we have Hashem who could do anything, who could help us in an instant. Everything could change in the blink of an eye and our attitude could affect that change. The pasuk says הבוטח בה' חסד יסובבנו – one who puts his trust in Hashem will be surrounded by Hashem’s kindness. This approach is not to be used only for the major needs of life, we should train ourselves to think like this regarding any need or want that we have.
Being depressed and moping around are not the answers to our problem, but being surrounded by Hashem’s kindness is.
