Never Lose Hope: Finding Courage in Discouragement

The sefer Nafshi Bishelati writes, if a person is ever unsure which direction he should take in religion, he should not ask Hashem for a sign on how to proceed. Hashem gave us Chachamim (sages) in every generation to guide us, and they are given a certain siyata d’Shamaya to tell us His will. We are not worthy of receiving open signs from Hashem and, in most cases, we don’t even know how to read them. Our decisions should be made solely based on Torah and advice from Chachamim.
We must know, Hashem loves us. Hashem loves our tefilot, whether we see it or not. It’s an additional bonus to see a sign, but it should never affect our actions or decisions.
