If a person gets cured from an illness through doctors and medication, it was Hashem who really cured him. Hashem is the only One with power to heal. Doctors and medications are just His messengers. Hashem told us to get healed using the natural means available to us, so we are obligated to use them to bring about refuah shelemah, but we should never get fooled into thinking that those means are what really bring the healing.
We must never give up hope on Hashem no matter how long sickness or difficulty has been persisting. It may appear that no progress has been made in years, but that does not matter because the way of Hashem is when the time is right, He brings the salvation in an instant.
