A Flourishing Marriage: Gladdening the One You Took

Parashat Ki Tetzeh: Your Marriage Will Flourish
The pasuk says in this week’s Parasha, Ki Tetzeh, "ושמח את אשתו אשר לקח – he shall gladden the wife which he took." The Chazon Ish quoted this pasuk in a letter and explained how a man should fulfill this mitzvah. He wrote, the nature of a woman is to delight in the fact that she finds favor in her husband’s eyes. She has an inborn nature to feel valued and appreciated by her husband, and, when her husband gives her that confirmation by speaking nice words and giving her compliments, she’ll be happy and then she’ll flourish in her role as wife.
A wife longs to be valued by her husband and a husband needs to feel respected by his wife. If each party fulfills their role properly, their marriages will flourish, they will be doing their avodat Hashem the best way, and then they will be able to fulfill their jobs together in this world in harmony, b’ezrat Hashem.
Shabbat Shalom!!
