The Plumb Line: Hashem’s Precision in Destruction
The pasuk says in Megilat Eichah, "חשב ה' להשחית חומת בת ציון נטה קו." This means, when Hashem decided to destroy the Bet HaMikdash, He stretched out a plumb line. The Mefarshim ask, a plumb line is a tool that is used for construction, not destruction. The Imreh Emet explained, this tool was used by Hashem for the beginning of the construction of the third Bet HaMikdash. At the same time Hashem was contemplating destroying the Bet HaMikdash because of our sins, He was already planning the final rebuilding.
We are hoping now that this last contraction which has shaken up the entire world in ways that it has never seen in all of history will be the final contraction to produce what we have been longing for throughout this long exile – the Geula Shelemah with the Mashiach and the binyan Beit HaMikdash במהרה בימינו אמן.
