Against the Grain: Opening the Door Through Sacrifice

When a person does an act of mesirut nefesh – self-sacrifice, overcoming his natural inclinations, going against the grain to do a mitzvah for the sake of Hashem, it opens the doors of blessing. When it appears that by acting in a certain way we’ll be losing out, but we recognize Hashem is watching, our lives are in His hands, and we go through with the action that we feel is correct, that is considered a great act of emunah. Believing that we’ll never lose out by doing a righteous act is a big zechut
Mesirut nefesh is so beloved to Hashem. Doing what’s right at a time that is hard is an act of great emunah which brings about great beracha.
