Proper Perspective: Torah as our Life Guide

One of the great benefits of having the Torah and our Chachamim to guide us is that we are able to view the happenings of life with the proper perspective. An occurrence, if not understood properly, could put a person into a depression for months, but when viewed through the prism of Torah could actually become a pleasure to him. One example of this is when a person becomes publicly humiliated. The natural reaction is days and weeks of emotional pain, replaying the events over and over, embarrassed to go out in public, harboring hatred to the one who shamed him. But our Torah gives us the proper perspective on this which will give a person a completely different outlook.
The Pele Yoetz writes in Erech Bizayon based on the words of Chazal as well as pasukim in Tanach, if someone shames us, we should not have the slightest bit of anger towards him or attempt to take revenge. Rather, we should thank Hashem who sent that person specifically to come and embarrass us to cleanse us of our sins. We should be so happy that Hashem gave us an easy form of kapara, not having to lose any money or any health.
If we could view life’s events the way our Torah instructs us to, we’ll enjoy our lives more and reap the rewards for reacting the right way.
