Blocking the Light: Why We Must Focus on Chesed

If a person is going through a tough time period and he’s upset with Hashem, He blocked out all of the chasadim that Hashem does and has been doing for him and focused only on his current problem. If that person would change and think about how much Hashem does for him and, instead of being upset, he would start thanking Hashem for everything he has, including what he’s currently going through. Then, kavayachol, he would get the biggest hug from Hashem. He would receive an outpouring of love from his loving Father by humbling himself and appreciating all that Hashem does. Instead of the heartache, he’ll begin to feel happiness. Instead of feeling distanced from Hashem, he’ll feel so close. He will have accomplished one of the greatest avodot. He will have grown to high spiritual levels. He will feel so much better about himself and the situation that he’s going through. The decision is up to him, to respond with his gut reaction, which will only hurt, or to respond with emunah. The second approach is better in every way. We want to have relationships of love with everybody and, most importantly, with Hashem.
