A Positive Commandment: The Duty of Thanking Hashem
Thanking Hashem is not just “a nice thing to do,” both Rabbenu Yona and the Sefer Charedim count it as a positive commandment from the Torah. Even just thinking about the kindnesses that Hashem does for us is already a mitzvah.
Hashem gives us with a lot of details. Each one of the details that we are able to pick up on is another reason to thank Hashem. And every time we’re able to thank Him for another kindness, we’ll be credited with a mitzvah from the Torah, and we’ll be giving Hashem, kavayachol, the pleasure of hearing our praises.
