Weekly Parasha

The Whole Picture: Learning from the Meraglim

Parashat Shelach: The Whole Picture
In this week’s parasha, Shelach, we read of the tragic episode of the meraglim – the ones who went to scout out the Land to see if it was good. Hashem already told them the Land is great. Hashem promised them He would give it to them despite the strength of the people who occupied it. The Jewish People were supposed to trust Him, even though things might have appeared differently in their eyes. This is our job on a daily basis, to believe one way even though it might seem the opposite. Hashem told us, we’ll be rewarded for every effort we make in Torah and mitzvot. Some people feel like they’re so good, but their lives are so hard. They have to realize they have such a narrow view of things; there’s so much they can’t see.
Hashem told us, everything that happens in our lives is for our good. Many times it appears not to be so. That is when we need to strengthen our emunah and trust in Him. Every inconvenience, every delay, every aggravating moment, they’re all calculated by Hashem for our good. And if we can trust Him in those circumstances, it will decrease our stress levels and we’ll be fulfilling the great mitzvah of emunah.
Most of the time, we will not see the whole picture, but if we trust Hashem like we’re supposed to, it’ll help us in this world and the Next.
Shabbat Shalom
