The Elixir of Life: Delving into the Endless Torah
The wisdom in the Torah is endless, even after delving into it for over 3300 years, we still haven’t even scratched its surface. The Torah is called a סם החיים – an elixir of life, it gives us life in both worlds, it elevates us, it enables us to stay focused and not become swayed by the society around us.
The Pele Yoetz writes in Erech HaSimcha, the happier we are with the performance of a mitzvah, the greater that mitzvah becomes and Hashem rewards us even more for it.
We’re going to say in the Kiddush on Leil Shavuot, “אשר בחר בנו מכל עם – Hashem chose us from all of the nations – ורוממתנו מכל לשון – He lifted us up to live on a higher plateau than all others – וקידשנו במצוותיו sanctified us with His mitzvot. Let us appreciate what we have, let us have a true Kabbalat HaTorah this Shavuot. Each time we appreciate this kindness of Hashem, that He gave us the Torah, we’ll be fulfilling the positive commandment of remembering ma’amad Har Sinai and it will enable us to follow the mitzvot with joy and attain great levels.
Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach!
