How to Receive His Blessings: Love Your Friend

Parashat Kedoshim:
How To Receive His Blessings
The pasuk says in this week’s parasha, Kedoshim, “ואהבת לרעך כמוך אני ה' – love your friend like yourself, I am Hashem.” The Tana Diveh Eliyahu explains that Hashem tells us, “Do I lack anything that I need to ask you for help? What do I ask you? Just to love each other, honor each other, have a sense of awe of each other, and stay pure of sin so that you don’t harm yourselves.’” All Hashem wants is to give us blessing, and He told us how to receive His blessings.
It is implicit in a mishna in Pirkei Avot (4:1) that when we give honor and respect to other people, we’re actually honoring Hashem. And the pasuk guarantees “כי מכבדי אכבד – those who honor Hashem will be honored – Hashem will honor them.” Ashrechem Yisrael, our people do so much good for each other and they do it l’shem Shamayim. They help others not to receive anything in return from them, just to do Hashem’s will. And Hashem takes note of each and every act that we do, and He is the one who will reward us for our efforts.
Shabbat Shalom!
