The Afterglow of Purim: Realizing His Great Love

On Purim we celebrated Hashem’s great love for us, as we saw how He was with us behind the scenes every step of the way. What appeared to be natural occurrences were, in essence, all the details of Hashem’s master plan. On Pesach we celebrate Hashem’s love for us through His open miracles. When He took us out of Egypt, He showed us how He defied nature and turned everything over to save us in a spectacular way.
The halacha says when an individual experiences an open miracle, he makes a beracha, “ברוך שעשה לי נס במקום הזה-Blessed are You who performed a miracle for me in this place.” However, when a person sees Hashem in his life in a natural way, like by Purim, there is no beracha. And the reason is, explains Rabbi Menashe Reisman, because Hashem is doing those hidden miracles for us every moment of the day. He’s always with us. Sometimes we’re able to see the bigger picture and take four or five different events and put them all together to make a great story of hashgacha pratit, but in truth, we have the same hashgacha of Hashem upon us all of the time. If we would make berachot on the hidden miracles, we would never stop making them.
Hashem is always involved in everything we do. He hides Himself, but if we pay close attention, we’ll be able to see Him all the time.
