Gathering the People: A Message from Sinai

In this week's Parasha, Vayakhel, right after Moshe Rabbenu came down from Har Sinai, he gathered all the Jewish People together and gave them a message from Hashem. What was that message? To keep Shabbat. By us following the laws of Shabbat, we are proclaiming our Emunah that Hashem created this world and rested on Shabbat. The Midrash tells us that Shabbat came to Hashem with a complaint. It said, "Every day of the week has a partner except me." And Hashem replied, "You are going to be married to the Jewish People - you will be the bride and they will be the groom." Throughout the generations we have shown our loyalty to our bride Shabbat, even during the most trying times.
By keeping Shabbat, we will enjoy our lives more in this world and we'll be rewarded for it in the Next World.
Shabbat is our sign of Emunah. Let us keep it to its fullest and enjoy the special gift that Hashem has given us.
Shabbat Shalom!
