Divine Symptoms: When Pain is a Gift
Divine Symptoms
One of the kindnesses that Hashem built into the human body is that when there's a health issue, symptoms occur to warn us about that issue. Many people's lives have been saved because they experienced chest pain in advance of a heart attack. The pain gave them enough time to get to a hospital and be treated before it was too late. Sometimes the body has infection which could cause severe damage, but we can't see what's going on to be able to treat it. Hashem, in His infinite kindness, will give the person a fever to let him know that something is wrong. Hashem created warning signs for many different ailments and each one of them, although they may be painful, are really a blessing in disguise. There are ailments that do not have symptoms, but fortunate for us, Hashem knows how to warn us in other ways. If somebody is meant to be helped, Hashem will help him, no matter what ailment he's experiencing.
When Hashem does warn us with symptoms, we should thank and praise Him for those symptoms. And if a person was not warned, it was only because Hashem determined it was best for him to have the ailment that he got. We should always feel secure, knowing that our health is in the best hands.
