Thank Hashem for the Ability to Thank Him

We say every day in the Modim d'Rabanan - thank you Hashem: "על שאנחנו מודים לך- for the fact that we're able to thank you." We need to thank Hashem for the ability to thank Him because the benefits of it are so great. The Malbim on Tehillim (Ch. 63) writes on the words: "כמו חלב ודשן תשבע נפשי, ושפתי רננות יהלל פי "- our soul feels satiated whenever we thank Hashem. Just like food satiates the body, thanking Hashem satiates the soul. Sadness comes from constriction or emptiness of the soul, and we can fill that void by thanking Hashem.
The Mesilat Yesharim writes, there is not a human being in this world that doesn't have abundant cause to be grateful. The poor, sick man is trying to stay alive. One of the biggest reasons for his gratitude should be that he is still alive. This is the recipe for happiness. Find reasons to thank Hashem and do it. It will satiate the soul. And when we are able to thank Hashem, even for the problems that we have, realizing there's much worse out there, that will release so much of our tension and enable us to have more peace of mind!
