Start the Year Right: Success Through Rosh Hashanah

The Key to Success in the Yamim Noraim
The Gemara says in Masechet Rosh Hashana, "כל שנה שרשה בתחילתה מתעשרת בסופה"-which Rashi explains to mean if at the beginning of the year we consider ourselves impoverished and beg Hashem for all of our needs, then it will be a very prosperous year. The key to succeeding during the ימי הדין-the days of judgement-is to realize how dependent we are on Hashem, no matter how much we already have. The nature of man is to feel that whatever he already has is his, and he's just asking Hashem for more. But it's not true! We can't take anything for granted. We need Hashem for everything.
