Maintaining Internal Peace: Knowing Hashem is in Control

The pasuk says in Kohelet, תן חלק לשבעה וגם לשמונה, and Rashi explains, a person should always give from his money and his time, even if seven different people ask him for help. And when he finishes giving to seven, he should then give to another eight and never say I did enough. The pasuk continues, כי לא תדע מה יהיה רעה– we do not know which deed we will need to protect us from potential harm or for whatever else they will help us with in the future. Hashem uses the deeds that we do to give us beracha and protect us from harsh decrees. We don’t know which deed accomplishes what and we don’t know what the future holds. Therefore, we are to take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way.
Every good deed that we do becomes a zechut that Hashem uses to help us at a later date.
