Help with Children: Turning Tears into Growth

Parashat Vayechi: The Bigger Person
The pasuk says in Shir HaShirim, perek chet,מי יתנך כאח לי – we request for Hashem to comfort us like a brother, despite our wrongdoings. And the midrash there says, which brother? Yosef HaTzaddik who despite what his brothers did to him, he responded kindly to them. The pasuk says in this week’s parashah, Vayechi, אנכי אכלכל אתכם ואת טפכם וינחם אותם וידבר על ליבם - Yosef told his brothers he was going to provide sustenance for them and their children and then he comforted them and spoke soothing words to their hearts. The midrash says in the future, Hashem is going to comfort us, He is going to speak words that sooth our hearts in the merit that Yosef spoke soothing words to his brothers, despite all the pain and suffering that they put him through. All of Klal Yisrael, millions of people, are going to benefit from the heroic action of one person. Our deeds are so powerful, they are not only beneficial to us, they benefit our children and grandchildren as well, especially when the deed involves going against our nature and being the bigger person, despite being wronged.
Our deeds are very powerful. The harder it is to go against our nature, the greater the deed becomes.
Shabbat Shalom!
