Correct Thinking: Overcoming Anxiety with Truth
The Gemara says in masechet Berachot (8), one of the rewards given to a person who goes to shul early every day and stays there late every night is a longer life. One of the explanations given for this is that a person may have an inclination telling him if you skip shul, you can accomplish more in other areas, praying at home will save you a lot of time, not going out to learn at night will save you a lot of time. Hashem tells us, nobody ever loses out by doing mitzvot. When someone takes out time from his own schedule and allots it for going to shul, Hashem will give that person more time than he was supposed to have in this world. We always gain by choosing to do the will of Hashem. The gains are not always apparent, but that’s just part of the test. If it would be obvious that doing good is rewarded, it would take away our free choice. Nonetheless, at times, Hashem does give us chizuk by showing us how our good deeds are noticed and appreciated.
We never lose by doing the ratzon Hashem. It’s not always obvious, but it’s always true.
