Beloved and Beloved: The Love Between Hashem and Israel
This month of Elul is signified by the pasuk in Shir HaShirim, “אני לדודי, ודודי לי– I am for my beloved and my beloved is for me.: It is a pasuk which shows the great love between us and Hashem – He is our Beloved and He loves us beyond imagination. And if we are לדודי, if we return to Him and say, “We want to be close to You Hashem, We want to serve You the best that we can,” then דודי לי – Hashem will lift us up and bring us closer to Him.
Hashem is waiting for us to come close to Him, but we have to make that first move. This is the time of year that we focus on what’s really important in life and try to make necessary changes to do our jobs properly. The first thing we have to do is resolve we want to be better and then we should pick something we want to improve in. We can’t imagine how precious our deeds are to Hashem. Even doing one deed l’shem Shamayim, with self-sacrifice, could change our entire lives.
