The Longing Father: Hashem’s Desire for Proximity
The pasuk says “בנים אתם לה' אלוקיכם – we are children of Hashem,” and as children we must realize how precious we are to our Father. Hashem has a longing to be close to us. He wants to have an intimate relationship with every one of his children. By connecting ourselves to Torah, we connect with Hashem, and when we distance ourselves from the Torah, we are disconnecting from Hashem.
He is waiting for us, his children, to come back to him. He is waiting for us to make teshuva and allow Him into our lives. He wants to bring Mashiach, He wants to be close to us, but we are preventing Him. Every single child is important to Him and if there is anything we could do to help our Father, we should, whether it is improving ourselves or helping another person come closer to Him. Even the smallest steps that we take are very precious to Hashem.
