The Merit of Shabbat: A Commandment for Connection

Parashat Emor: The Merit Of Shabbat
In this week’s parasha, Emor, we are told about keeping the holidays, and, at the top of that list, we are commanded to keep Shabbat. The pasuk says, “שבת שבתון מקראי קודש – it is a day that is mikrah kodesh.” The Ramban explains those words to mean, we are supposed to gather together in shul to publically sanctify Shabbat with tefila and praises to Hashem. We’re supposed to wear special clothing and eat festive meals. Shabbat is a holy day, and if we preserve its sanctity, we’ll enjoy it even more and it will elevate us to higher levels and will give us side benefits in this world, as well.
The zechut of Shabbat is wondrous. If we keep Shabbat properly, we’ll enjoy it the way it’s meant to be enjoyed. It will elevate us to a higher spiritual level, and we will also gain many side benefits as well.
Shabbat Shalom!!
