The Divine Guest: Hashem’s Plan for Your Day
Hashem plans out every last detail of our every day. We are guests in His world and He wants things to be pleasing to our eye. If a person is about to experience one of the happiest day of his life, his wedding, and as he is walking from the car to the wedding hall, he sees the sun shining under a bright blue sky, he should thank Hashem for that too, because it was also from Him.
The pasuk tells us, ושמחת בכל הטוב – we are to be happy with all the good that Hashem blesses us with. What does it mean all the good? It means every last detail; whatever gives us any amount of pleasure, is part of that good. Hashem planned that for us as well. When a person is thirsty and drinks a cup of water he says "שהכול נהיה בדברו" – everything in the world is here because of Hashem. Why doesn’t he just thank Hashem for the water; why for everything in the world? Because when he’s having that drink, he’s surrounded by the beautiful world that Hashem made as well. He’s able to enjoy that water with trees and flowers around him, with birds chirping, with the sun shining. All of that Hashem created for him to enjoy because He loves him.
When we read the Haggada this Pesach, of course we’re going to thank Hashem for His wondrous miracles, but let’s not forget to recognize and thank Him for all the little details as well.
