Microscopic Machines: Thanking for 37 Trillion Miracles
The Gemara in Masechet Brachot tells us what our attitude should be whenever anything happens in our lives אם חסד אשירה ואם משפט אשירה – if we receive kindness we are supposed to sing to Hashem, and if we receive what appears to be the opposite, we are also supposed to sing to Hashem. The Shomer Emunim points out, most of the time we are being trained to thank Hashem for the hardships and recognize that they are also really for our good. But we must never forget the first part of that statement, to thank Hashem for the revealed good. The Yesod V’Shoresh HaAvodah used to thank Hashem for every little thing in his life. First, he would recognize that it was Hashem who was helping him or giving him and then he would feel the deepest feelings of gratitude.
We have to thank Hashem for everything, including the hardships, but we should certainly never forget to thank Him for all of the revealed good as well.
