Remaining Inside: Protection through Obeying the Command
Chazal tell us, לא מצא הקב"ה כלי מחזיק ברכה לישראל אלא השלום– Hashem did not find a vessel which is able to hold His blessing to us other than peace. Hashem has endless blessing that He is yearning to bestow upon us, but we need to have the right receptacle to receive it. Being in an argument with another person or bearing a grudge or refusing to speak to someone all damage the vessel that Hashem uses to pour His blessings into. Which means, a person may be praying for something that he wants day after day and Hashem has heard his tefilot and is ready to give him what he is asking for, but the only thing that is stopping it is that he doesn’t have a receptacle to receive it in. The receptacle that we need is called shalom – being at peace with others.
There is nothing that can hold blessing other than shalom. It is definitely worthwhile for a person to humble himself and ask forgiveness from anyone who may be angry at him, or to forgive those who may have harmed him. It will make him a receptacle for blessing and it will bring Hashem so much nachat ruach.
