When the Jewish people went out to war, they were commanded: "לא תירא מהם"- Do not fear the enemy. Although the enemy may have seemed more powerful and may have come charging towards them with horses and chariots, nonetheless, they were forbidden to be afraid.
Fear is a natural emotion, and people may ask how it is possible to command not to be afraid. "When I see something scary, I'm going to be afraid." But it is clear from here, and many other sources in the Torah, that we are able to have total control of our emotions.
Each time something happens that threatens to frustrate us, we should check and see what our reactions are and if they are improving. With the help of Hashem, we hope to become complete believers-not only in our minds, but even in our hearts.
