Obstacles in Mitzvot: Strengthening the Desire to Perform

Parashat Lech Lecha: Against The Odds
In this week’s parasha, Lech Lecha, we learn about Avraham’s great emunah in Hashem. Whether it was picking up and leaving without knowing where he was going, or whether it was not questioning Hashem when he came to the Land only to find a hunger there. Or whether it was trusting in Hashem to go fight the four kings to save Lot, or whether it was believing in Him when Hashem told him he would have a child at an advanced age. The pasuk says, after Hashem told Avraham that his offspring will be like the stars in the sky, והאמין בה' ויחשביה לו צדקה– Avraham had emunah in Hashem and Hashem considered that emunah an act of righteousness. What was so special about this emunah that the Torah needed to make a special mention of it and, as well, tell us how much Hashem valued it?
It can be extremely difficult at times to have emunah, but we should always remember, the harder it is to have emunah, the greater the emunah becomes.
Shabbat Shalom!
