Parashat Ekev: The Final Tests
This week’s parasha is Ekev which means heel. Rabbi Zilberstein writes in his sefer Vaveh HaAmudim, we must internalize the fact that we are the generation of the ikvetah d’Mashicha, which means the heel of Mashiach. We are the final generation before Mashiach will come and our Rabbis have warned us that our generation will be subject to tests that no other generation has seen.
One of these tests is the cellphone. Of course the main test is making sure that everything about the phone is kosher, but even after we are able to overcome that great hurdle and conquer that test, there are still other tests after that, namely the addiction of people having to be with their phones all the time. This causes them to not be able to fully focus, even when they are involved in the holiest of services to Hashem. Interrupting prayers or Torah learning to check the phone is a major distraction and insult to HaKadosh Baruch Hu.
The tests in life are hard, but the rewards are great.
Shabbat Shalom!
