We are living in unprecedented times. If someone would have told us a month ago that a few large companies would be temporarily shutting down, it would have shaken us up. It would have been world news. Now we are witnessing businesses across the globe shutting down completely, including oil companies, airlines, Fortune 500 companies and entire shopping malls. People who had enough money to last them ten lifetimes are suddenly in panic and unsure if they will have enough to support themselves even for just this lifetime. If one sporting team would have had to stop its activities, even temporarily, it would have been the talk of the town and now, every sport in the world has shut down completely. There is no entertainment, there are no amusement parks, there’s no dining out. The world seems to be shutting down before our eyes. What is the message?
The Torah and mitzvot, however, which are the real purpose of this world, are still thriving. People have learned more Torah in this past week than they have in years. People are actually craving Torah classes, whether they are being given on Zoom or a conference line. This is the only part of the world that is real and that is still intact.
The opportunity is here. Now is the time for us to step up to use this time to get closer to Hashem, to take upon ourselves mitzvot that we have not done until now, to increase our Torah study, to increase out level of modesty, to increase out level of kedusha by abstaining from watching the filth that the world is trying to poison us with. These are the things that can bring the Geula now.
The only one who can save us from all of the calamities that this plague is bringing about is Hashem. Let us truly believe אין לנו על מי להישען אלא אבינו שבשמים and beg Hashem to bring the final Geula. Amen!!
